The Navigator Role

What a navigator DOES DO

  • Act as the first point of contact for families exploring autism, ADHD or wider neurodiversity, including those who are curious and not yet seeking assessment.

  • Provide advice, information, and signposting to families, children, and young people contacting the Neuro Hub

  • Facilitate structured conversations to understand needs, expectations, and ensure the child’s voice shapes planning.

  • Support families both pre-assessment and post-assessment, including explaining processes, access routes, and next steps.

  • Offer flexibility through a four week offer of support both in the home and in the hub

  • Connect families to early help options including sleep support, emotional regulation, behavior, communication, support seminars and parental wellbeing groups

  • Help families navigate pathways and services, including education, health, LA services and VCSE offers.

What a navigator DOES NOT DO

  • Diagnose autism, ADHD, or any neurodevelopmental condition.

  • Provide clinical interventions, therapy, or medical treatment.

  • Replace CAMHS, educational psychologists, paediatricians, or medical professionals.

  • Offer legal advice (e.g., tribunal support, EHCP legal interpretation, statutory entitlement rulings).

  • Make clinical, statutory, or school-based decisions on behalf of other agencies.

  • Undertake formal assessments (e.g., autism assessments, ADHD assessments, cognitive assessments).

  • Deliver clinical or therapeutic group interventions.

The Co-Ordinator Role

  • Meets and greets all parent / carers that attend the hub

  • Discusses what support the family are looking for and offers either resources and advice and will advise if they need an appointment with the navigators that day

  • Support the navigators by coordinating the interventions suggested for the family at that moment

  • Coordinate the full offer for the neuro hub, booking both speakers and venues for events that will hold the required attendees.

  • Coordinate the attendance of all parent / carers to suggested interventions like Riding the Rapids, Thinking families etc.

  • Collate all data and feed back to ensure we are continually improving and supporting families needs

  • Liaising with partners to make sure the hub has all the current offers in the locality up to date for parent / carers to access
